Simon-Wiesenthal-Platz 1, 4020 Linz

The exhibition illuminates the fractures and continuities in Linz at the transition from a wartime to a post-war society, the end of the National Socialist dictatorship, and the beginning of a renewed democratization. Central to this is the question of what significance history holds for us today. What came to an end, and what continues to resonate into the present? In what places and ways does remembrance take place in Linz? Whom is (not) remembered? The exhibition approaches these and other questions with a focus on the social and political challenges in Linz after 1945. The handling of displaced persons and the housing crisis are just as much in focus as denazification and the processing of history, exemplified by Simon Wiesenthal. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the still palpable ambivalence between collective repression on one hand and the significance of history for democracy and peace on the other.
