Alter Ego intends to write a play about the Ottoman Empire – a seemingly hopeless endeavor. In search of inspiration, he encounters a talking half-horse and a dream in human form, which transport him from the fragmented reality of Gelsenkirchen back to the 13th century with Osman I. A euphoric journey through time and space begins, during which we experience the rise and fall of an empire that once stood at the gates of Vienna, amidst family dynasties and claims to power.
Stefan Bachmann narrates the prehistory of modern Turkey with wit and ease. The evening is accompanied by a live band led by Sven Kaiser.
