Winter in the National Park - Excursion

A winter visit is always worthwhile. Many birds spend the winter in the Seewinkel at mild temperatures. This allows for peaceful observation of the Montagu's harrier, greylag geese, or the red-backed shrike. The Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park is also worth a visit in winter. The cold season is usually quite mild and low in snow. On the still green pastures and fields, thousands of greylag and white-fronted geese can be observed foraging for food. However, if it does snow, even small amounts can create meter-high snowdrifts in the right wind conditions. Rare hoarfrost nights cover the plants in the pastures with beautiful ice crystals. During prolonged cold periods, even the puddles and the lake can freeze, leading to some unexpected wildlife observations.
