SPIDERGAWD was founded in 2013 as a side project of the two Motorpsycho musicians Bent Sæther (bass) and Kenneth Kapstad (drums). The initial lineup was completed by singer and guitarist Per Borten and saxophonist Rolf Martin Snustad. In 2014, the self-titled debut album was released through Crispin Glover Records. The second studio album, Spidergawd II, followed in 2015. In the same year, Spidergawd was awarded the Bendiksenprisen, a music prize granted by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, worth 100,000 kroner. The album Spidergawd III, released in 2016, brought the band their first chart placement in their home country, reaching rank 24. Also in 2016, founding member Bent Sæther left Spidergawd and was replaced by Hallvard Gaardløs. Four more albums followed, with "Spidergawd VII" released in 2023.
