ABOUT THE CONCERT
A few years ago, Heinz Ferlesch, the artistic director of the Vienna Singakademie and conductor of the Original Sound Orchestra Barucco, fulfilled a long-held wish. He not only performs the great masterpieces of the Baroque period instrumentally but has also expanded his instrumental ensemble with a chamber music-style vocal ensemble. In Barucco Vocal, there is no separation between choir and soloists – an old practice of music-making is revived, in which both the choral and solo passages are skillfully and stylistically sung by the 14 ladies and gentlemen. In Raiding, the two "Baruccos" will captivate the audience with the "Johannes Passion" by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed for Good Friday 1724, which has lost none of its emotional and gripping impact since its premiere. It is an immensely dramatic work, not in an operatic-theatrical sense, but in the way Bach captures the events of the Passion in musical forms and vividly presents the Passion story of Jesus Christ with urgency and enchanting tonal color in the moving narrative.
