ABOUT THE CONCERT
Bach's suites for solo cello are among the most performed compositions for a string instrument and represent, for many, the quintessence of Bach's work. Matthias Bartolomey places selected movements from these famous suites at the center of his solo program, which he complements with new, groove- and rock-influenced original compositions, all in the spirit of duality. This creates a musical dialogue that spans 300 years. Bartolomey's original compositions serve as comments from our time, as a play of colors and reflections. Inspired by Bach's timeless motifs and rhythms, Bartolomey develops his own musical language, which he weaves around the movements of the Baroque suites with both gentle and sharply contrasting elements. The music of Bach remains untouched and is heard in its purest form.
