With Viaggio dell’anima, Rolando Villazón, Wolfgang Katschner, and the lautten compagney BERLIN embark on a moving expedition into 17th-century Italy. At the center is the monody – that expressive, emotionally driven form of singing that composers like Claudio Monteverdi brought to life, laying the foundation for the art of opera.
Following the overwhelming success of L’Orfeo at the Semperoper Dresden, the artists now turn to the inner world of a modern person – a soul traveler who experiences the full spectrum of human emotions on their journey: love and doubt, ecstasy and loneliness, hope and despair. An evening that bridges the early Baroque and the present – virtuosic, emotional, and touching.
