Countess Zedlau seems to have made quite a mistake in choosing her husband: While she is a true noblewoman from Vienna who enjoys life to the fullest, she considers her husband, Count Balduin, to be a paragon of boredom (and he is not even a Viennese). However, the boredom is actually an illusion, and Count Zedlau knows how to amuse himself with romantic adventures right in Vienna, a fact she only realizes when one mistress after another reveals herself. When the perhaps most naive prime minister of all time gets involved, the chaos becomes unstoppable.
"Wiener Blut" is one of the earliest pastiche operettas, combining nostalgic and rarely heard pieces from the pen of Johann Strauss into a breathless comedy of errors. With this last operetta of the waltz king, director Thomas Enzinger once again proves his skill in this genre.
