ASYA FATEYEVA & LAUTTEN COMPAGNEY BERLIN
RAMEAU MEETS ABBA
A dancing king and the Dancing Queen ... But apart from their association with royalty, the baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau and the band ABBA actually have a lot in common: the originality and catchiness of their melodies, their rhythmic exuberance and their unrestricted popularity. And since the lautten compagney BERLIN is known for its innovative projects, nothing stands in the way of the collaboration with saxophonist Asya Fateyeva: "The classical saxophone carries the sound of the human voice - and we adapt songs for instruments," says lutenist and director of the ensemble Wolfgang Katschner. "We combine it with the old instruments, with the saxophone adding its very own, and in this context, new colour." The works of Rameau are also enriched by the sound of Asya Fateyeva's saxophone and in some places merge with the music of ABBA, so that in the end it is almost impossible to recognise which was written by whom!
PÁJARO DE ORO
LUCIANA MANCINI & PUERTO TANGO
MUSIC BY ELIADA BLÁZQUEZ , ASTOR PIAZZOLLA , CARLOS GARDEL AND MANY MORE.
She has long been an audience favourite (not only) at the MusikTheater an der Wien. Whether in virtuoso baroque roles, as a regular guest at the cross-genre concerts of L'Arpeggiata and Christina Pluhar or as the tango singer María in Piazzolla's María de Buenos Aires: Luciana Mancini's dark-coloured voice and her spirited stage presence are a source of enthusiasm. The concert Pájaro de Oro is dedicated to women in the world of tango and explores their role in a musical genre that has been dominated by men: The programme includes classics by Gardel and Piazzolla, as well as more recent compositions by Antonio Tarragó Ros, for example. Luciana Mancini has found the ideal companions in Puerto Tango: The ensemble from Budapest combines older and contemporary tango and develops each programme with new arrangements and a great sense of discovery!
OLD ENOUGH
EARLY MUSIC HEROINES
OLD MUSIC CROSSOVER WITH WORKS BY BARBARA STROZZI , BRITNEY SPEARS AND MANY MORE.
If you're reading this, you probably love classical music! And if you regularly visit the MusikTheater an der Wien, the chances are that you have a particular soft spot for "early music". But what exactly is "early" music with a capital A? Why does it not include Mozart, Verdi or Haydn when, on the other hand, the Beatles are considered "oldies" and last year's pop summer hit has already been forgotten? When is a piece of music old enough? The Early Music Heroines, led by soprano Johanna Rosa Falkinger, address these questions with commitment, humour and historical information and bring the heroes of early music back to the stage of hell. You will find out, for example, whether Britney Spears is old enough for early music and why early music is a healthy drug in hard times. Definitely not to be missed!
