Untere Donaulände 7, 4010 Linz

In the mid-17th century, England began importing tea from China. The wife of King Charles II, Catherine of Braganza, popularized the hot beverage – then still referred to as "China drink" – among the English nobility. Later, the famous English Afternoon Tea was established as a domestic ritual across all social classes to bridge the time between lunch and dinner. With English compositions from the 17th and 18th centuries, the musicians of MokkaBarock embark on a journey through past times. Melodies inspired by misty Scotland or the bustling streets of London convey the musical flair of British tea culture. The program features works by Nicola Matteis, Arcangelo Corelli, Henry Purcell, John Playford, and Georg Friedrich Handel.
