The orphan girl Heidi is taken by her aunt to the alpine pasture to her grandfather, the Almöhi. There, she goes with Peter the goat herder to tend the goats on the mountain and spends a happy time in and with nature. However, when Heidi is brought to the city to be with Klara, who is in a wheelchair, the carefree days come to an end. As Klara's playmate, she is supposed to learn to read and write. But when the two return to the alpine pasture, a miracle happens...
