A comet is racing towards Earth, and the END OF THE WORLD is looming. The fear of the people is a good tool for politics, but there is no majority for saving the planet. Viral fake news spreads from the state of ASTORIA (unemployment: zero, oil reserves: inexhaustible, borders: closed). But who needs truth in a national frenzy? In the sunken VINETA, time stands still. Without time, there is no remembering – and without memory, there is no history. What could we possibly learn from it? A CLASSROOM IN THE YEAR 2035 emphatically shows: nothing. Created in Vienna between 1936 and 1938, Jura Soyfer's plays precisely reflect their time – and yet they read as if they were written today. Jan Philipp Gloger connects various texts for his opening production into a grand arc through the work of the playwright who was murdered in a concentration camp at the age of just 26. With the means of literature, Soyfer passionately fought until the end to awaken and change society, and now he strikingly captures the state of our world once again.
