The Center of the World

Andreas Steinhöfel's magical-realist young adult novel "The Middle of the World" has already conquered many theater stages and, among others with Jannik Schümann, the big screen. Now we want to show that there is also a lot of music in the material. The regional theater has commissioned the young team of Niklas Wagner and Sarah Taylor Ellis to transform the novel into a musical, and the first test at the Linz writing machine in the BlackBox impressively demonstrated: The two are on a promising path with their indie-folk score.

Seventeen-year-old Phil lives with his eccentric mother Glass and his mysteriously silent twin sister Dianne in the villa "Visible" on the outskirts of town. Nothing is normal in his life, yet he wishes for nothing more than a bit of normality. When he falls in love with his classmate Nicholas, even his cheerful friend Kat can no longer help him. One thing is clear: it cannot stay the way it is.

Steinhöfel tells poetically and with dry humor about being different and the search of a young person for the right place in the world.
