Promenade 39, 4020 Linz

"This is the story of my childhood and my war." When the war begins in April 1992, Tijan Sila is only ten years old, but to this day he can remember the smell of detonated explosives. While Sarajevo is in flames, the boy he once was transforms into a young man. He wanders through the ruins of the bombed city, collecting items left behind by those who fled and those who died. He learns to survive and accepts the cruel new normality, but at what cost?

The childhood story of Bachmann Prize winner Tijan Sila tells of a world where there is no longer any safety, and where lines separate people, yet no one knows where these lines run. It speaks of people who have had their humanity abruptly taken away, and of the scars that war leaves in the minds of every survivor. Director Sara Ostertag will adapt this poignant novel for the Austrian stage for the first time, using her own visually powerful and sensual aesthetic.
