The death of a loved one is a pause in the lives of the bereaved. Schubert's String Quartet No. 4, composed in 1813, is often associated with the death of his mother in 1812. Mendelssohn wrote his String Quartet No. 6 in 1847 after the death of his sister Fanny. Two months later, he himself passed away after suffering several strokes.
