Prinz Pi is going on tour with his new album "West Berlin": a completely new live show and stage await his loyal audience, which he has accompanied for a long time. Of course, he also brings a number of old hits, creating that typical sense of togetherness for which he is known and appreciated. When it comes to German rap, the name Prinz Pi cannot be overlooked. The Berliner is rightly placed by his fans on the same level as rap greats like Sido, Eko Fresh, and others. Especially his controversial and socially critical songs are the reason why Prinz Pi's shows regularly become absolute highlights at relevant festivals.
Born in 1979 in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg, Friedrich Kauz initially made a name for himself in the German hip-hop scene under the pseudonym Prinz Porno. The son of a Czech refugee family first expresses his artistic talent as a gifted graffiti artist. However, he achieves his breakthrough with his passion for music. Instead of pursuing a career in the risky music business, Prinz Pi, alias Friedrich Kauz, initially opts for a crisis-proof education. He attends a humanistic high school in Berlin-Steglitz and begins studying communication design at the Berlin-Weißensee Art Academy in 2002. However, his passion for rapping ultimately influences his life path in a different direction.
In 1998, the Berliner makes waves with a song on the hip-hop compilation "Berlin Nr. 1 Vol. 1," which also features Kool Savas. With his own sampler "Porno Privat," including the track "Keine Liebe," Prinz Pi achieves a triumph on the internet – even though the album was not intended for the public and reached the web through friends and acquaintances. Prinz Pi can rightly call himself a workhorse, as he continuously writes and produces. From the very beginning, his works are characterized by socially critical themes: the rapper addresses global issues critically and sometimes provocatively.
Prinz Pi's tours take him through countless concert halls – he also engages in numerous collaborations with other artists. Tickets for Prinz Pi are highly sought after, especially at relevant festivals. In 2004, Friedrich Kauz temporarily steps back from the business, only to reappear a year later under the new artist name Prinz Pi. His solo sampler "Teenage Mutant Horror Show" even lands in the Top 50 of the German album charts for two weeks in its second version.
Many tracks, albums, and collaborations follow, including with Casper and RAF Camora. Prinz Pi's tireless work ethic is rewarded with sold-out concert halls and numerous chart placements. His personal life is also going well for the three-time family man. A special highlight in Prinz Pi's career is his trip to Tanzania in Africa in 2008. Together with local youth, he records several songs as part of the "Virus Free Generation Hip-Hop" tour, in which he addresses the globally, but especially in Africa, still widespread immune deficiency disease AIDS.
Prinz Pi undoubtedly ranks among the most successful German rap artists. The proof of this is not only the size of his following but also his regular appearances in the German charts, including with the albums "Kompass ohne Norden" (2013), "pp=mc²" (2015), and "Im Westen nix Neues" (2016), all of which reached number one. Awards like the German Music Authors Award also show that Prinz Pi is well received even outside of his typical audience.
