Based on Frank Wedekind's play Spring Awakening from 1891, the rock musical addresses societal morality while simultaneously shedding light on sexuality and oppression. Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik worked for seven years on their adaptation. Together with young people, they developed a work that explores its themes through a diverse, youthful lens. For even though we may consider ourselves more enlightened today, adolescents still struggle with countless worries, fears, and challenges of puberty.
