Bach in Space

Distant galaxies, star nebulae, black holes – the universe is closer than ever! On a giant screen, sharp NASA images shine in colors that are usually only seen in science fiction movies. Accompanying this, Mona Asuka, one of the outstanding pianists of her generation, performs live the music of Johann Sebastian Bach – sometimes powerful, sometimes delicate, always surprising. The result: a concert that feels like a journey through space and time.

Image and music merge, the gaze wanders into infinity – and suddenly Bach's music seems so modern and timeless, as if it were just written for this moment. The first performances in Munich have already shown how much the concept captivates: “A celestial Bach,” wrote the Münchner Merkur. And the portal “Kultur in München” reported: “The audience in Munich is visibly captivated during the performance – by the vastness and depths of the crystal-clear, high-resolution images, by the finely curated selection of Bach's repertoire, by the precise execution.”

In April 2026, Bach in Space will premiere at the Vienna Concert Hall. The program features highlights such as excerpts from the “Well-Tempered Clavier,” the “Goldberg Variations,” and the “Italian Concerto.” Great classics – experienced anew, in a setting that guarantees goosebumps.
