Eschenbachgasse 9, 1010 Wien

Günther Groissböck, Bass
Florian Krumpöck, Piano

"With a heart full of endless love for those who scorned me, I wandered... into distant lands. I sang songs for many, many years. When I wanted to sing of love, it turned into pain for me. And when I wanted to sing only of pain again, it turned into love for me." (Franz Schubert)

When Franz Schubert invited his circle of friends to a performance of the 24 "horrific songs" from his "Winterreise," he was aware that he had created a work that leads the listener to the deepest point of existential feelings. Numerous interpretations have been attempted in the nearly 200 years since the creation of this cycle: from the political parable as a critique of the Metternich system to the superficial interpretation of the romantic love story.

The three song cycles by Franz Schubert, which exert an unrelenting fascination on both performers and audiences, are undoubtedly milestones within the genre of art song. Beginning with the "Winterreise," the celebrated bass Günther Groissböck, accompanied by Florian Krumpöck on the Bösendorfer, will immerse himself in the emotional cosmos of these three masterpieces over the next three years and embark on a fascinating journey to the innermost depths of the human soul.
