The foreign legionnaire Octavio is waiting in a Spanish port city for his embarkation to North Africa. There he meets the life-hungry, married Giuditta. The two fall in love, and Giuditta follows Octavio to Africa. After weeks of a romantic dream, Octavio is called up. Giuditta is left disappointed. When Octavio leaves the military out of longing for Giuditta to bring her back, her life has already taken a different turn... In his last operetta, Franz Lehár's dream of being premiered at the Vienna State Opera has come true: Jarmila Novotná and tenor superstar Richard Tauber premiered the work there in 1934.
