Stifter and Bruckner! The two united on one evening. A completely different Hochmair! – He doesn't shout, doesn't tear off his clothes, doesn't jump around – he simply sits and reads. Accompanying him are the excellent "Upper Austrian Salonists," playing pieces by Anton Bruckner. It's a new listening experience! Bruckner has never been heard like this before: fresh, lively, then again quiet and delicate. The musicians around Peter Gillmayr conjure up music that perfectly matches each text passage. Young men return exuberantly from a celebration, accompanied by a Bruckner that sounds rhythmically intense and robustly youthful. Then again, melancholy drips from the instruments as the old uncle reflects on his life. Especially in conjunction with Philipp Hochmair's captivating interpretation of excerpts from Stifter's story "Der Hagestolz," which manages to enthrall the audience from the very beginning. He gently leads into the depiction of landscapes and portrays the encounter between young Victor and his old, lonely uncle as an emotional dialogue of two clashing worlds that ultimately penetrate each other.
