On her recent trails in Asia, she survived earthquakes, typhoons, and an overdose of kimchi, then embarked on a pilgrimage through the European cultural landscape for recovery, and has repeatedly battled through the wilderness of America and the Australian Outback. Along the way, the globetrotter learned that not only climate and terrain influence the hiking experience, but also eating habits, beauty ideals, and labor laws. In her new show, she compares outdoor cultures from Chile to Taiwan with funny and thought-provoking anecdotes from 40 countries, showing what we can learn from them as well.
Where can you hike around a damaged nuclear power plant? Which outdoor snack is only available here as dog food? And why do some hikers look like bank robbers?
The four-time bestselling author surprises with unusual tour suggestions and practical tips, and answers her audience's questions live. Above all, she lovingly gives couch potatoes and scaredy-cats a psychological kick in the butt, as she believes: We should all dare to seek more adventure! To eliminate excuses, she works with her audience step by step on how to overcome the fear of solo tours and spend the night alone in the woods. Whether you are searching for God, yourself, or your ideal weight: This motivational show proves that hiking will always make you happy.
When Christine Thürmer was born in 1967, nothing indicated that she would one day become the most-hiked woman in the world. Otherwise the top of her class in school, she was absolutely hopeless in sports. So she first made a steep career as a manager before realizing, after an unexpected layoff and the death of a friend, that time – not money – is the most important resource in life. Completely untrained, she hiked 4,277 kilometers from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, despite flat feet, knock knees, and being overweight! And that’s just the beginning: Since then, she has walked more than 65,000 kilometers, crossed the USA and Europe three times each, and written four books about her adventures. "Run. Eat. Sleep." about the American trails, "Hike. Bike. Paddle." about her trips in Europe, "Hiking Long Distances" with her accumulated outdoor knowledge, and the guidebook "Around the World in 25 Trails" have all spent months on the Spiegel bestseller list.
