Synopsis

Why do men suffer more than women when they are sick? The phenomenon of "man flu" is a prime example of the supposed misunderstanding between men and women. The duo comedy cabaret "Man Flu Reloaded" is based on the book of the same name by Peter Buchenau and Ina Lackerbauer, published in 2016 by Springer Verlag.

Peter Buchenau plays the suffering man flu patient who passionately explains to the audience that poor men experience much greater pain from a man flu than women do during childbirth. It’s no wonder that Peter doesn’t receive much understanding from his stage partner Gloria. However, she does eventually persuade him to visit a doctor's office. This leads poor Peter to a militarily cold doctor who prescribes him countless medications because she is in cahoots with the profit-hungry pharmacist. The entire play culminates in the absolute climax where Peter takes all the pills at once, encountering not only his own liver but also being visited at home by the Grim Reaper. In the end, Peter Buchenau distills the message behind "man flu": Ultimately, it’s also about love and recognition.
