The famous Italian fairy tale about the Christmas witch Befana transforms into a humorous and contemplative opera theater that puts both young and old in a festive mood.

The witch Befana listens blissfully to the shepherds singing about the birth of the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. She wants to fly there immediately on her broom to see the child, but she is constantly held up because so many people need her help. When Befana finally arrives at the stable in Bethlehem, the Holy Family has already moved on. Heartbroken, she encounters the Three Wise Men, who are actually about to begin their journey home...
