Since their founding in 2013 in Metro Detroit, Michigan, the metalcore/post-hardcore band I Prevail has enjoyed both critical and commercial success. Their debut album, Lifelines, released in 2016, achieved Gold status in the USA and Canada, while TRAUMA from 2019 repeated this success in Canada. The latter was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Grammys that same year, and the single "Bow Down" was also a contender for Best Metal Performance.
With their 2022 album TRUE POWER, the band continued their unique musical path, refusing to conform to genre expectations.
Now, with their fourth album, Violent Nature, the band takes it a step further. Recorded in two sessions at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, the album was self-produced under the direction of bassist and keyboardist Jon Eberhard. It also marks the first appearance of vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe as the sole vocalist of the band – he handles both the clean and "unclean" vocal parts. And he does so with full force. The album's first single, also titled "Violent Nature," is possibly the most brutal, extreme, and wildest song the band has ever released.
However, not everything on the album is so intense or heavy. While the single "Rain" is anything but gentle, its powerful, anthemic chorus feels almost like a lullaby in comparison – despite the angry and tormented undertones in the lyrics. Nevertheless, the song showcases the two very different sides of this album and the opposing forces that run through the work.
Welcome to the new era of I Prevail. This is not only the band's best version to date but also one that brims with intention, passion, and energy.
