THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, a company of Wien Holding, see themselves as the theater operation of the city of Vienna and feel responsible for providing all people with the opportunity to experience musical theater. With a unique performance format, the VBW also aim to offer an exciting and simultaneously relaxed musical experience to people with special needs, disabilities, or neurodiversity (including autism, ADHD). In collaboration with the Austrian Autism Aid, the VBW will therefore present a so-called "relaxed performance" of a musical for the first time in the German-speaking world: On July 14, 2024, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will be shown in this special format at the Raimund Theater.

"Relaxed performances" are already established on Broadway and the West End. The adaptations made for the "relaxed performance" of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in Vienna have been tested in New York and Sydney and have been adjusted for the Viennese audience in coordination with director Seth Sklar-Heyn. Enjoying the musical in a relaxed atmosphere for everyone
Originally developed by the autism community for cinema and theater performances, the concept is suitable for both individuals on the autistic spectrum and those with disabilities, chronic illnesses, Tourette syndrome, learning difficulties, or ADHD. People who feel excluded by strict conventions in theater can enjoy the performance in a more relaxed environment here.

Since a stage show can be overwhelming for some individuals due to lighting and pyrotechnic effects as well as loud noises, these stimuli are reduced or omitted in the "relaxed performance." Furthermore, the audience area will be illuminated with dimmed lights throughout the entire performance duration, and it will be possible to leave the auditorium to take a break in one of the designated relaxation rooms in the theater if needed. Visitors can also return to their seats at any time without having to wait for an intermission during the performance. An earlier house and auditorium opening, as well as a longer intermission, are intended to further reduce stress and hurry during the theater visit. In advance, a guide in simple language will assist in preparing for the musical visit.
