The Last Days of Mankind - Burgtheater Vienna

Between 1915 and 1922, Karl Kraus wrote the extensive drama THE LAST DAYS OF MANKIND. In over 200 scenes, the First World War is depicted in both a profound and absurd manner: from the delusion of politics to targeted disinformation by the press, to the dull indifference of the population. Kraus ruthlessly exposes how the intertwining of power interests and war propaganda, along with an opportunistic society, made the madness of war possible in the first place. Director Dušan David Pařízek creates a new version of this material, which was long considered "unperformable" and was originally intended by Kraus not for earthly performance but for a "Mars theater."
