AKKORDEONALE meets International Accordion Festival Vienna
Innovative, intoxicating, and refreshingly different - the "Akkordeonale" festival is a true homage to a beloved yet often underestimated instrument. Here, the accordion showcases all its charm, temperament, and spirit as a soloist or a portable orchestra on a strap. Since 2009, the Dutchman Servais Haanen has been gathering musicians from various countries each year for a surprising ensemble mix across all styles. In spring 2025, Franziska Hatz traveled throughout Germany with the Akkordeonale, and for the focus "Behind The Scenes," we invite the international group for three concerts in Austria:
Island sounds from wild Sardinia with Organetto and Launeddas, classical-contemporary treasures, Scottish high-speed folk, refreshing singing with accordion from all directions, as well as Dutch sound aesthetics, unconventional cello, and a moderation with cult status.
Pulsating shifts between solos and ensemble pieces, along with exciting interactions among the musicians, are the heart of every Akkordeonale. No matter how different the personalities, cultural backgrounds, and playing styles may be, the common language of music creates a lively communication that disregards borders and divisions.
Improvisational talent, spontaneity, and the joy of playing together connect the musical richness of individuals in the ensemble to something new, something unheard until now.
