Philosophical Soirée - A Word on: Romantic Love. A Myth of Our Time? with guest Josef Hermann

Romantic love is not a predetermined reality, but is continually re-staged – in culture, media, and personal relationships. This staging shapes our expectations and influences our thinking and feelings, but it also creates pressures and disappointments. We critically dissect this myth, expose its mechanisms, and inquire about the reality behind the illusion, as well as explore possibilities for love beyond ideals and constraints.

About the event series: What does it mean to philosophize in our Matinées and Soirées?
To philosophize means to think together, to ask questions, to discover different perspectives. We scrutinize arguments, challenge assertions, and sometimes take a step back to reflect on our own opinions. It’s not about being right or already knowing everything. What matters more is curiosity, openness – and the desire to give our own thoughts a fresh breeze. Anyone who wants to contribute is welcome to do so. Those who prefer to simply listen are equally welcome. Prior knowledge? Not necessary. And because thinking is easier when one feels comfortable: a pleasant atmosphere and light refreshments will be provided.

In the Matinées, backgrounds, perspectives, and anecdotes from the history of philosophy will be presented – the discussion will be moderated. In the Soirées, a guest will also be invited, who will bring specific knowledge and stimulating ideas – contributing to an open, moderated discussion.
