The timeless love story that has captivated audiences for generations: Swan Lake. A new dance piece by Guido Markowitz and Mar Rodríguez Valverde. A guest performance by the Tanz Theater Pforzheim.

“The storm is calming down; in the distance, a fading rumble of thunder can be heard; the moon lets its pale beam pierce through the dispersing clouds, and a flock of white swans appears on the now tranquil lake.” This is the original final scene of “Swan Lake,” the most famous narrative ballet set to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which premiered in 1877 in Moscow.

One and a half centuries later, images of the graceful swans seem to have been forever etched in our cultural memory. But what actually happens to Siegfried, the prince, around whom the story revolves? The tragic love between the black and the white swan almost takes a backseat. Meanwhile, the court society gathers at the castle to celebrate a lavish feast for the upcoming selection of the prince's future bride. Glasses clink, the music swells. Tchaikovsky's masterpiece rises and makes one forget the approaching morning.

Guido Markowitz, the cultural award winner of the city of Villach and ballet director of the Tanz Theater Pforzheim, has created a piece together with Mar Rodríguez Valverde that wonderfully reflects his approach of diversity and the inclusion of various styles.
