Chamber Music + August Klughardt Wind Quintet in C Major, Op. 79 + Antonio Vivaldi Concerto for Flautino in C Major, RV 443 + Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 1 in E-flat Major, KV 16 + Leopold Mozart Musical Sleigh Ride Soloist: Julie Romestant (Piccolo flute) Conductor: Timothée Méthou Admission free. Donations appreciated. Large concert halls with corresponding orchestral arrangements did not exist before the early 19th century. Secular music was performed in "smaller" venues: at the court, in theaters, salons, and inns. The Music Collegium Freiburg, in a reduced ensemble, dedicates its winter program to works that were premiered in such spaces. Antonio Vivaldi composed his Flautino Concerto in C Major, RV 443 during his time in Venice at the Ospedale della Pietà, where it likely premiered as well. In Vivaldi's work, Flautino referred to a soprano recorder. Nowadays, the piece is often performed with the modern piccolo flute, which emerged in the early 19th century, which is why it is also referred to as a piccolo concerto. Symphony No. 1 in E-flat Major, KV 16 was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of eight. He creates an orchestral soundscape and notable depth using the stylistic means of the time, especially in the second movement. The premiere took place in 1765 at the Little Theatre in Haymarket, London. Leopold Mozart's Musical Sleigh Ride, premiered in 1756 in an inn in Augsburg, is one of the most famous works by Wolfgang Amadeus' father and vividly narrates a winter sleigh ride to a ball. Extraordinary instruments are part of the performance. The concert begins with the Wind Quintet in C Major, Op. 79 by August Klughardt, played by five members of the orchestra. Composed in 1898, its style is not far removed from the other works, being very reminiscent of compositions by Schumann, very transparent and full of late Romantic colors. Klughardt utilized the improvements made to the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn in the 19th century, without which the work would not be playable. The orchestra looks forward to your visit!
