Every year, brewing demonstration events take place in Dausenau. The local community of Dausenau organizes these together with the beer brotherhood Duzenowe, which operates one of the smallest breweries in Germany with an annual output of less than 2,000 liters.
Here, visitors can experience the tradition of home brewing from 9 a.m. to about 6 p.m. and follow how beer was brewed for personal consumption in many households from the late Middle Ages to the 19th century. Wood-fired copper kettles, some of which were still used as sausage or slaughter kettles until a few years ago, are the heart of the brewing facility.
The highlight of a conventional brewery tour is usually the beer tasting at the end. The local community of Dausenau and the beer brotherhood Duzenowe consciously take a different approach. Here, the brewing process is the focus, which interested visitors can experience live and in open vessels. From stirring in the malt in the morning, to lautering (the separation of solid and liquid components) and boiling at noon, to cooling the wort in the evening. The brewers are always available for questions and discussions. And even participation is possible, for example, by stirring the mash or adding hops.
