The Limes Castle Pohl offers an enticing workshop on Saturday, May 23 at 2.00 p.m.. The "jack of all trades" of the Limes Castle and Limescicerone Jürgen Schmidt will demonstrate how cooking was done on the edge of the Roman Empire using a wood-fired oven, fire pit, and potentially authentic Roman cuisine. The great thing is that adults and teenagers from 12 years old (accompanied) can not only watch but also actively participate in the combined baking and cooking. Ultimately, a 3 to 4-course menu based on ancient sources (Cato and Apicius) will be created—adapted to our region and our time.
It is advisable to bring grill gloves, an apron, and your own kitchen knife.
The chefs will be able to take home experiences with a wood-fired oven and cast-iron kettle, knowledge about spices, alternatives to garum, daily life on the Limes, and practical, family-friendly recipes. All the culinary creations can also be tasted.
The participation fee, including all ingredients, is 12.00 EUR.
Registration: By phone at 06772 9680768 or online at www.limeskastell-pohl.de/kultur.
