Döbling Burning - A Singspiel from the Edge

The poet and songwriter Ernst Molden, who escaped from Döbling to Erdberg decades ago, has dedicated a fantastic dance of death to his birthplace. Döbling, Vienna's 19th district, the last bastion of the old Austrian bourgeoisie. There is a hangover atmosphere after the (Neustifter) fair: Otto Meyer-Sudelfeld, a failed performance artist and the last scion of a rubber factory dynasty, could inherit his grandmother's villa and her fortune if only he would finally behave like a decent Döblinger and bury his crazy ideas. But the church, represented by Monsignore Schoiswohl, is also eyeing the villa and the money. The demonic winemaker Leopold Probus Musil plays a role, as does a real Döblinger ghost: Saint Agnes.

After the Amadeus-awarded and multiple Nestroy-nominated productions HÄUSERL AM OASCH, HAFEN WIEN, and MAYERLING, Rabenhof associate Ernst Molden—who has been a "partner in crime" in community housing theater for decades when it comes to the successful revival of the old Viennese operetta—finally presents a new production.
